What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?

I have decided that a good distributer would be MAMA & Company. This is because they are small and currently only publishing one other music magazine that my product would not compete with. A smaller publisher would work well for my magazine as it offers as much financial support as a niche market product will require, it will also mean more creative control than a larger publisher would allow.
A publisher like IPC would not work as they
publish NME, which my product would compete with so it would not benefit the
company or my product. The same reason applies to Bauer because they publish Q.
I also have decided against these bigger publishers for artistic reasons. I
would not want my magazine to be independent however because I feel some
support from a small publisher will optimize its success.
I think institutions such as small, local
record stores will stock my magazine, such as soundclash and rough trade. This
is because the product will then go directly to the consumer. My product would
not do well in newsagents and supermarkets as my consumer demographic are not
likely to shop there. I would also avoid my product being in HMV because my
magazine champions independence so to stock it in independent record stores and
HMV would contradict my products ideology.
My magazine would not be advertised on TV
as this would not appeal to my target audience, it might however be advertised
at festivals, gigs or even on the radio. This is also where having a form of
publisher helps; it allows my product to expand itself. Not to the size a
larger publisher would allow, but that is not the desire for this product.
My product will also have a website, making
it convergent across media texts and easier for the consumer to access.
