Location/Props/Costume Report

Location/Props/Costume Report

LOCATION:

I have chosen to take all of my photos in college for practical reasons.

COVER:  Photo will be taken of Kate in the media studio against a black wall with strong lighting.
CONTENTS: Take photo in an industrial outside environment to emulate bands style.
FEATURE ARTICLE: Background image also outside and industrial environment, however distinctly different to one used on contents. Feature Kate.
More images I have taken at gigs and also images of Kate and Adam during/after ‘interview’.

PROPS:

COVER: No props needed.
CONTENTS: No props needed.
FEATURE ARTICLE: No props needed unless band has stuff on stage.

COSTUME:

COVER: Whatever Kate wears plus punk tartan lined bomber jacket, as lining is also red.
CONTENTS: Same as cover.
FEATURE ARTICLE: Same as cover, plus whatever bands are wearing.

I want my magazine to look cool but casual so I have been quite minimalistic and make-shift on purpose to promote the whole iconography of the genre.

Magazine Drafts

Fonts Mood Board

These are the fonts I have collected to possibly be used for my magazines masthead; I have chosen the name Rinsed so I have found fonts that could relate to the connotations of that word. Most of my fonts are sans serif and bold, this was an elaborate decision to impact the consumer and stand out on a newsstand. When I make my product I intend to try all of these fonts before deciding on one when my magazines style is fully developed.

Colour Mood Board

This is the colour mood board for my product, I decided on 3 possible combinations. I chose to use mainly 3 colours because it is conventional for magazines, especially the cover. My first combination is monochromatic with red, I chose red as it signifies stop and danger that I feel will grab the consumer’s attention and alert them.
My second combination is simplistic; this is to emulate the basic colours used in old punk fanzines such as Sniffin Glue. This nostalgic reference would draw in an older audience as well however may put younger people off.
My third combination uses Klein Blue, this colour is known for connoting calm, I could however use it in an unconventional style and redefine its iconography to suit my magazines style. This is also why I used grey, a cover with no white is highly unconventional.

I have chosen to use my first colour combination for my magazine as the red will help my costume ideas and I feel red fits my magazines iconography the best.

Advertisers Mood Board

This is a selection of possible advertisements for my magazine, I have chosen these as they will appeal to my target audience and suit my house style. The alcohol I chose are all sold at festivals so students are more likely to but them for parties as they are affordable. I only included beer and cider as vodka and spirits tend to be aimed at a more upmarket, older audience. The converse advert featured in NME and uses musicians to advertise shoes – this sort of advertising would fit my magazine as the consumer sees an icon in those shoes and is positioned to want them as well. The next advertisement is for a Stone Roses reunion show, this was an iconic moment in music and would fit any music magazine, especially those with an alternative tendency. ‘Drug Store’ is an independent clothing store and my audience are likely to want to find shops like this in their local areas so my magazine could include various independent brands. I felt that guitars such as fender could advertise in my magazine as my readers are likely to be musicians, some of them may not be able to afford such guitars but for any band members that read, this will appeal to them. Phone adverts may also feature in my magazine, as my readers are young so will want to keep up with technology. Festivals such as Reading and Leeds would advertise in my magazine as we share demographic.

Target Audience Mood Board

My target demographic is predominately males ages 16-23 with an interest in new and alternative music. My mood board shows this through the images I have chosen. The festival crowd is from Reading and Leeds, this festival showcases the type of music my magazine will. ‘Topshop’ is where I expect the female consumers will purchase their clothes from as topshop are affordable and cater to alternative cultures fashion. The records indicate how I want my consumers to have a love for older music and appreciate vinyl, I expect half of my readers or more will own a record player. ‘NME’ shows the other publications my demographic may be interested in, however mine is less mainstream. The Stone Roses again show the taste of my target audience, old British music that is iconic. This is also the reason for The Libertines being on there. My consumers will most likely be aware of current music news which is why I’ve included Alt J winning this years Mercury prize. The guitars display how my audience are likely to be musicians or in bands themselves, this widens their appreciation of music and allows musical language to feature in my product. The iphone is one of the most popular and modern phones and common amongst students. I’ve added SBTRKT (in the mask) to signify my products championing of new music. The still from A Clockwork Orange is a cultural reference to what my consumer would watch/read, as this is almost a cult movie and a well-kept secret. I’ve included beer and Chinese food to contribute to the student/festival/teenage ideology.
